Requirements   When Do I Need a License and What Kind?
You DON'T NEED a membership or a business license to check out the market for the first one or two times as a casual vendor -- just come down the day of the event before 7 am. To vend regularly, the City requires compliance as a small business person; for that you need a current Seattle City business license. State business Licenses won't do. It must be Seattle. To be able to hold a reservation at the market or to get preferential member sign-in privileges each morning you'll need a Market Membership.

What Do I Need For Membership?
Market membership requires your state wholesale tax UBI number, a current Seattle business license and a $40 annual market fee. Memberships are valid for all our markets. However, the nature of your goods will determine which markets you are eligible to vend in.

Membership allows you pick a space ahead of non-members up until 8:30 am the day you arrive. Members also have the privilege of prepaying and reserving spaces for weeks in advance.

City Rules
The City of Seattle requires that anyone engaged in a regular business in Seattle to have a Seattle City business license. If you are coming for the first time to try the market out and get a feel of things you can just come down, try it out and then you can download the City business license forms you need if you choose to become a member.

If you want to become a Market member right from the start, you can access the links below for more information or downloadable forms. Often its easier to go the agency in person and get 15 minute while-you-wait service (see below). Call ahead for up-to-the minute information you need. Sending forms in by mail can take up to six weeks.

Both licenses can be obtained in 15 minutes if you go in person. Otherwise mail-in applications can take up to 6 weeks.

   
Sign-Up Can I Sign Up Mid-Week?
No. You can't sign up for Membership midweek because we aren't open midweek and processed on the day of the event are eligible for same day privileges. You MUST bring a photocopy your city and state licenses when you apply.

Sign up for membership in the morning between is 7 am and 11:30 am. Market desk is closed between 12 noon and 2 pm and the Membership manager may NOT be there after 2 pm.
   
Reservations Cut Off Times For Arrivals Reminder
We don't hold reservations longer than 9 am in Ballard, or Fremont. If you are delayed, call and tell us you're on your way. If you don't call the market desk by the cut-off times you may risk losing your prepaid space for that day.
